Mr. Colors

March 5 2013 , Written by Peanut Butter Blogger Published on #Old School

After watching movies, I went back home to work on my blog. Reading my classmates' blogs, a post of one of them caught my attention. Lee was wondering how colors can influence us. Indeed, each color gives us different feelings. I will talk about how they are used in one of the movies I watched: Mr. Nobody.

The main character, Nemo Nobody, is dying. He tells his life to a journalist, or rather his lives. Nemo could have spent his life with one of these little girls (see picture below).

The colors of the dresses are all different: yellow, blue and red, the three primary colors. In the movie, Nemo imagines how his life can be with each of them.

Nemo's life with Elise is represented by the color blue. Blue is a peaceful and calm color... but it also means melancholia and sadness. Even though with a husband, Nemo, who loves her and three children, Elise can't bear her life anymore. She is always thinking of her previous lover, and wishes she had never married Nemo. She lives with a nostalgia that no one can get her out of. The color blue reminds the water color, as if Elise is drowning, and she will drag Nemo in her ruin.

Jean wears a yellow dress. Nemo and Jean have a huge house with a swimming pool, and Nemo is a businessman. The color yellow means idealism and success. Nemo's life with Jean should be the most perfect one. However, Nemo is not happy. Jean loves Nemo but Nemo doesn't love her. This is just an ideal world, not the real one. That's why there are not lots of scenes with Nemo and Jean, as if this life is not important.

Nemo knows true love with Anna. Red represents passion and love. All the scenes with Nemo and Anna are colored by red. This introduces an atmosphere of romance and warmth. The spectator can feel the strong connection between the two characters. There's no doubt these scenes are the most emotional to the spectator.

After watching this movie and watching other blogs, my impression is definitely influenced by the background color of the blog. For example, I didn't feel anything visiting blogs with the color yellow, I was indifferent, while the blogs with color magenta seem warmer.

My blog is black on the top then white. I think it is classical. But maybe you have other opinions? It may look monotonous and boring? Is it classy or does it make you think of death? Everyone usually sets up their blogs with the colors they like first, and only after are thinking of the visitor. The colors of your blog consequently reflect yourself and what you want the visitor think of you.

And of course, I recommend you the movie Mr. Nobody (2010), by Jaco Van Dormael. It is well written and very imaginative. The colorful scenes keep your mind in peace and you will be taken away by the poetry of this movie.
